Objective: To establish the level of knowledge and attitudes of prevention of malaria in travellers to areas of risk. Material and methods: A non-experimental, prospective, transversal and correlational study was conducted. The study population consisted of 277 Peruvian travellers older than 18 who depart from Chiclayo with destination to the North Peru jungle areas. Results: Levels of expertise were: very good: 3.6%, good: 36.1%, Regular: 32.5%, Bad: 27.8%, Insufficient: 60.5%; the levels of attitudes of prevention of malaria in travellers to areas of risk were: Right: 64.6%, Inadequate: 35.4 %.) There is association between the degree of instruction and the level of knowledge of travelers (p < 0.05). Partnership exists between the levels of knowledge with the cities of destination of travelers (p < 0.05). Conclusions: There is a poor level of knowledge and there is an adequate level of attitudes of prevention of malaria in travellers to areas of risk.
