In this session, Ms. Phelele Fakudze, Policy & Advocacy Manager at the Elimination 8 Secretariat, will share the E8’s experience in harnessing the power of advocacy to advance policy and financing objectives that will accelerate malaria elimination in the region. Attainment of malaria elimination in Southern Africa requires bold and decisive policy action in order to prioritize national resources, to engage in diplomatic negotiation and to negotiate terms of data-sharing and use with neighbouring countries. Ms. Fakudze will highlight how the E8 effectively links the technical management of the eight national malaria control programs with the high-level political leadership of Ministers of Health of the E8 countries, who form the E8 Ministerial Committee, to elevate malaria elimination as a policy priority and build commitment for a regional approach to elimination.
