Victor Chaumeau
Victor is entomologist at the SMRU has been working on the entomological aspects of malaria elimination on the TMB for five years. As part of his PhD, he has conducted entomological investigation in endemic villages located in Karen state (Myanmar). The main outcome of this work was to assess the impact of mass drug administration on the entomological indices of malaria transmission. His research now focuses on the design and evaluation of innovative vector-control interventions in areas where mosquito bed-nets have only a marginal impact on malaria. In addition, he and his team have set-up a platform to perform experimental infections of Anopheles mosquitoes with falciparum and vivax malaria parasites. Current research axes include the assessment of transmission-blocking activity of primaquine against Plasmodium falciparum, in vitro and high-throughput drug screening to discover antimalarials active against P. vivax hypnozoites.
