Paison Dakulala
Dr. Paison Dakulala is the Deputy Secretary for National Health Services Standards of the National Department of Health, Papua New Guinea. He has over thirty years of experience in Clinical and Public Health leadership and management. Dr. Dakulala is a Public Health Physician and has skills and technical knowledge in Diseases epidemiology. He obtained his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Papua New Guinea, Taurama Campus and later succeeded to obtain his Masters of Medicine in Internal Medicine also at the UPNG. Dr. Dakulala then completed his residency at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, NSW, Australia.
Dr. Dakulala in his role as the Deputy Secretary, National Health Services was also the pushing factor behind the setting up of the Ministerial Taskforce for Maternal & Child Health 4 years ago.
Prior to his current post, as a Specialist Physician, he worked in the province of Morobe, PNG, where, amongst others, was instrumental and directly involved in improving and setting up the Directly Observed Treatment Strategy (DOTS) Tuberculosis Control Programme there for 10 years. His work on TB continued with him when he moved to Alotau, Milne Bay province. His work on TB spread to other provinces, which eventually went national.
With his focus now at national level, Dr. Dakulala continues to provide the best technical know-how on public health and medical standards issues affecting our nation and aspires to be that driving force for the much needed change for the betterment of our country.
Dr Dakulala along with executive and managerial duties continue to provide technical guidance and supervision for Malaria, TB, HIV and Maternal Health as these are key public health issues in PNG. He is Chair of the Emergency Response to TB Steering Committee, Member of the National AIDS Council, and Country Representative to the Tri-lateral Malaria project.
