Olivo Miotto
Olivo Miotto is an Associate Professor at the University of Oxford, based in Bangkok, Thailand, where he specializes in the genomic epidemiology of malaria parasites, with a special focus on the genetics of antimalarial drug resistance. For the last 10 years, Olivo has collaborated with many organizations to conduct regional and global studies to identify mechanisms of resistance to artemisinin, piperaquine and other important antimalarials, leveraging on whole genome sequencing technologies provided by his long-standing partners at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. He is currently the principal investigator of GenRe-Mekong, a regional genetic surveillance project that works with national malaria control programmes and research organizations to conduct dense collections of dried blood spot samples from which Genetic Report Cards- comprehensive assessment of drug resistance and gene flow in local parasite population- are delivered promptly to support decision-making by control programmes.
