MBBS, Adelaide University. 40+ years working in international health. Early career involvement in smallpox eradication in Bangladesh and malaria research in Papua New Guinea. From 1984 to 1999 worked with WHO HQ in Geneva on disease control and child health programs, including as Director of Child and Adolescent Health and Development. Head of health for the UN Transitional Administration in East Timor in 2000-2001 and WHO Representative in Cambodia 2002-2005. Principal Health Adviser at the Australian Agency for International Development in Canberra 2005-2009. Founding member of the UCSF-led global Malaria Elimination Group and current member of the Lancet Commission on Malaria Eradication. Current Chair of the Global Fund Technical Evaluation Reference Group. Freelance consultant in health and development based in Cali, Colombia.
