Arjen M. Dondorp

Arjen Dondorp is an infectious diseases and intensive care physician. His current position is Deputy Director and Head of Malaria Re¬search at the Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU) in Bangkok, Thailand. MORU is an internationally recognized leader in tropical medicine research. Arjen is a Professor of Tropical Medicine at the Uni¬versity of Oxford, UK, and a visiting Professor of Clinical Tropical Medicine at Mahidol Univer¬sity in Bangkok. His main research interests include the pathophysiology and management of severe malaria, antimalarial drug resistance, and improving intensive care medicine in resource limited settings. He has coordinated large clinical trials in Asia (SEAQUAMAT) and Africa (AQUAMAT) showing the superiority of artesunate over quinine for the treatment of severe malaria, and also led the early trials identifying artemisinin resistance in Western Cambodia.
